Description:Human Resources Generalist

Rapidly growing $40 million safety services provider based in Kent, Ohio is seeking a Human Resources Specialist. This person will work closely with our 27 regional operations, corporate departments and field offices in a variety of Human Resources functions.


AWP is America’s Traffic Control Leader, providing turn key traffic control solutions, including professional flagging, equipment rental, and full scale work zone management in 17 states. Our associates handle simple to complex traffic control that keeps the motoring public and our customers safe. We represent nearly every major public utility, electric, gas, and telecommunications and provide them with safe, reliable, and well managed, traffic control solutions.
Duties:Responsible for providing Human Resources support for non-exempt employees, including resolving employee relations issues, administration of payroll and the new hire process, conducting new hire orientations, maintaining associate attendance records and files, and administering benefits and safety programs. Creates, implements and administers employee relations programs, performance feedback process, review processes, and other projects as needed.


• Respond to manager and employee general benefits inquiries
• Troubleshoot benefits issues by reaching out to other departments and appropriate resources for assistance in seeking resolution
• Reviews benefit deductions for accuracy
• Assists with management of annual open enrollment benefit process each year. Arranges for distribution of materials, and assists with communicating changes to employees. Processes changes within deadlines.
• Makes recommendations to improve benefit process


• Work closely with corporate training and development team to support the development and administration of programs, policies and processes to facilitate employee and organizational development.
• Identify training needs and resources to maximize employee talent to meet the needs of the company.
• Assist in coordinating training schedules

• Administer and communicate policies, processes and activities necessary to ensure both compliance and the spirit of non-discrimination throughout the company.
• Respond to a wide variety of inquiries that may involve researching programs, policies, procedures and LOA administration
• Provide input into the development, implementation and maintenance of programs designed to improve communications within the region.
• Interprets, communicates and applies Human Resource policies, programs, and procedures
• Manages unemployment claims,
• Fosters an environment of open communication, respect and promotes Area Wide Protective’s Open Door Policy. Strives to create and maintain an employee friendly and union free environment.


• Provide support to regional safety initiatives through active involvement and participation in programs. Provide leadership to strengthen awareness of proper safety behaviors.


• Assists with sourcing, recruitment, selection and orientation of qualified internal and external applicants to meet current and future needs of the organization on an as-needed basis.
• Support company policy and procedure in the areas of the new hire process including drug screening, background checks, paperwork, HRIS entry, benefit enrollment and administration as well as administer various other HR related programs
• Provide assistance to coordinators with the review of background checks and drug tests
• Handle job requisition and posting process as needed


• Support and maintain HRIS system and Time and Attendance program.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date files
• Provide general support for HR & Operations
• Assist with department projects as needed
Qualifications:• 3-5 years of experience in an HR environment preferred or a degree in Human Resources
• Human Resources Certification (PHR) a plus preferred.
• Must have ability to maintain and handle confidential information
• Must have outstanding communication skills and exceptional organizational skills
• Must have ability to work independently in a professional manner with frequent interruptions
• Must have analytical problem solving skills and be detail oriented
• MS Office program proficiency (Excel, Word, PPT)
